Problems Reported As Voters Head To Polls
Nov 6th 2012, 17:42

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It did not take long for voting problems to arise on Election Day.

Some voters claim they’ve had to stand in long lines, they’ve been turned away and in some cases, the machines weren’t working properly.

Election 2012 started off as many others have with problematic electronic voting machines to voters waiting in long lines.

One of the first reports of problems came from the polls at Northway Chruch in Wexford. Initially, the electronic voting machines were malfunctioning and several voters had to use paper ballots before the problem was remedied.

Jean Holleran, 92, first voted for Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Back then, she didn’t have to wait but that was not the case this morning.

On the North Side, voter Robert Steadmen found himself a man without a precinct.

"It's crazy that I [have to] jump here jump here jump there. I just want to go in and vote they told me no," Robert Steadmen said.

Eventually, Steadman was sent to the right polling place.

In West View, they had the voting machines and they had the voters. However, they were missing a Judge of Election and opened up late.

“The polling place said they couldn’t find a judge or the judge got lost or some bloody thing," Mary Sweeney said.

“It’s terrible because I know there’ve been at least 50 people that have not been able to vote and they’re probably on their way to work and may not be able to come back," Marian Frazier said.

Problems with faulty machines were also reported in East McKeesport, but despite the problems the turnout is great and a lot of voters are just happy they will get to vote.

"I’m not going to miss this. No matter what," one man said.
